 DEFINITIONS OF COMMUNICATION 


Communication is the act of conveying information to create a shared understanding. It is a fundamental aspect of human interaction, something that humans engage every day. The term "communication" is derived from the Latin word "communis," meaning "to share," and encompasses various forms of human interaction including verbal, non-verbal, and electronic means. Scholars, specializing communication, analyze the development of communication skills in humans and theorize ways to enhance its effectiveness.


There are many definitions of communication from the different minds of scholars.


Communication is the process of passing information from one person to another. The purpose of communication understands information. Whatever one wants to say to someone should be clearly understood by him, or else the very purpose of the communication would be defeated.


• McFarland (2014) defines communication as a process of meaningful interaction among human beings. Furthermore, it is the process by which meanings are perceived, and understandings are reached among human beings.


• Newman and Summer (Newman and Summer (1991) define communication as an exchange of facts, ideas, opinions, or emotions by two or more persons.


• Schramm (1954) defines communication as a tool that makes societies possible and distinguishes humans from other societies.


• Berelson and Steiner (1964) define communication as the transmission of information, ideas, emotions, and skills through the use of symbols, words, pictures, figures, and graphs.


• Rogers (2005) says, communication is the process of transmitting ideas, information, and attitudes from the source to a receiver for the purpose of influencing with intent.


• Kar (2019) defines communication as all those planned or unplanned processes through which one person influences the behavior of others.
